One of the main aspects in the Company's interaction with the local communities is land use. The contract areas are usually densely populated with large-scale agriculture and stock-raising activities. Historically, the tribes inhabiting the contract areas tend to have conflicts, which often overflow into armed clashes.
The objective of the Company in this situation is to provide maximum support to the host state in resolving issues of land use, to conduct explanatory work among the tribal leaders and ordinary farmers and to resolve current disputes.
Given the high level of unemployment in the region, the issue of hiring local residents in the contractor and subcontractor companies is one of the keys to sustaining conflict-free coexistence with the local community and smooth operations. The Company's consistent work on the employment and demobilization of local workers allowed it to prevent large-scale protests after more than 4,000 unskilled Iraqis were dismissed by the contractor companies through 2014—2016 in the Basra province (Iraq).
